We put the UV-5G Minis through our standard rigorous homestead test: roughly 2.5 miles of heavy obstruction (hills and major power lines) between a cabin and a distant checkpoint.
- Audio Clarity: Even through dense terrain, transmissions were entirely intelligible.
- Performance Comparison: The UV-5G Minis easily matched the performance of the UV-5G Plus, and significantly outperformed the UV-5G Pro and the older GM30 models.
- Antenna Shock: Interestingly, during our tests, the stock stubby antenna performed just as well as our standard 15-inch whip antennas. That means you get solid performance right out of the box without needing to upgrade to a longer antenna immediately.
